Jellycat Bashful Penguin

Jellycat Bashful Penguin comes in two sizes, 18 cm and 30 cm, a black penguin soft the whole way through.

What it is like to hold

Bashful Penguin is made from the dense, brushed fabric Jellycat uses across its animals. The colouring is black and white, deepest along the back and lighter underneath, which is what gives the shape its softness in photographs and in a dim room.

How big it is

Bashful Penguin measures 18 cm and 30 cm depending on the size chosen. Heights are taken from the base to the top of the head rather than the tip of an ear, which is the figure the size guide lists, so a shelf or a cot space can be judged before it arrives.

The collection it belongs to

This one comes from the Bashful range. Jellycat design in ranges rather than one piece at a time, and it shows: the proportions, the face and the finish carry across, which is why collectors tend to buy two or three from the same family rather than one from each. Our own outfits are cut to centimetre bands for the same reason, so a piece bought a year later still has something in the wardrobe that fits it.

Made from, and looking after it

Polyester fabric with polyester filling. Hand wash only. Do not tumble dry. Left to dry naturally it keeps its shape, and the stitched features come through a wash unchanged, which is the advantage of embroidery over anything printed or glued.

Who it is for

We list it under everyday companion, and it is picked here mostly for a birthday and no particular reason at all. Big enough to notice when it is unwrapped, and not so big that it has to find a permanent home the same day.

About A Flying Wish

Everything we make is built to celebrate the stories people share with the companions they keep. Bashful Penguin sits on our shelves for that reason, and our own outfits are cut to fit it and the rest of the plush in its band. The size guide has the full table.
