Jellycat Wistful Penguin

Jellycat Wistful Penguin is a black penguin from Jellycat, stocked in two sizes, 16 cm and 26 cm.

The piece itself

Wistful Penguin has the quality that is hard to photograph and obvious in the hand, which is evenness. No thin patches, no hard filling anywhere, and a colourway of black and white carried right through to the underside rather than stopping where it stops being visible.

How big it is

Wistful Penguin measures 16 cm and 26 cm depending on the size chosen. Heights are taken from the base to the top of the head rather than the tip of an ear, which is the figure the size guide lists, so a shelf or a cot space can be judged before it arrives.

Where it sits in the Jellycat range

Wistful Penguin belongs to Jellycat’s Christmas Characters range, which is the part of the catalogue we stock most deeply because it is the part customers come back for. Pieces from one range tend to sit well together, so if you are building a set rather than buying a single companion it is worth looking across the rest of it. We list what is in stock on the Christmas Characters pages, and the sizes are given in centimetres throughout so you can see at a glance which of our outfits will fit which piece.

Fabric and washing

Polyester fabric with polyester filling. Hand wash only. Do not tumble dry. Cool water and a little time are all it asks. Avoid wringing it out, since that is what distorts the seams, and press the water out with a towel instead.

Choosing it as a gift

Filed under everyday companion, and chosen here for a birthday and no particular reason at all more than anything else. It reads as considered rather than expensive, which is usually the harder thing to get right in a gift.

Why we stock it

A Flying Wish began with outfits and grew into the plush that wear them. Wistful Penguin is stocked here because it fits that idea, and because the pieces we design are made to last as long as the companion they are made for.
