There is a stillness to Jellycat Bashful Toucan, a black toucan of 31 cm that asks to be picked up.
About Bashful Toucan
Bashful Toucan is made from the dense, brushed fabric Jellycat uses across its animals. The colouring is black and yellow, deepest along the back and lighter underneath, which is what gives the shape its softness in photographs and in a dim room.
How big it is
The height is 31 cm. That single figure is what our outfit listings are matched against, which is why it is printed here rather than a rough category. If you are buying a garment at the same time, it is the only measurement you need.
Where it sits in the Jellycat range
This one comes from the Bashful range. Jellycat design in ranges rather than one piece at a time, and it shows: the proportions, the face and the finish carry across, which is why collectors tend to buy two or three from the same family rather than one from each. Our own outfits are cut to centimetre bands for the same reason, so a piece bought a year later still has something in the wardrobe that fits it.
Fabric and washing
Polyester fabric with polyester filling. Hand wash only. Do not tumble dry. That is the whole of it. It is worth following, because heat is what turns a soft plush into a stiff one, and no amount of brushing afterwards brings the pile back.
Suitability
Filed under everyday companion, and chosen here for a birthday and no particular reason at all more than anything else. It reads as considered rather than expensive, which is usually the harder thing to get right in a gift.
Why we stock it
What we are trying to build is a shop where a companion and something for it to wear can be chosen in the same visit without any measuring anxiety. Bashful Toucan is part of that, sized and banded so the outfit pages can be read against it directly.
