Jellycat Bashful Hippo
Bashful Hippo comes in a gentle grey, the shade of weather rather than concrete. Wild in origin and thoroughly companionable in practice. The face is embroidered rather than printed, so nothing about it can wear away. It is the kind of thing people keep.
Sold by A Flying Wish, an independent shop not affiliated with Jellycat or any other brand. Stock is limited to the units we hold.

Meet Jellycat Bashful Hippo, a grey hippo of 31 cm that settles easily into the crook of an arm.
A closer look
The proportions are doing the work here. Slightly heavier through the base than the head, so Bashful Hippo sits rather than topples, in a colourway of grey that stays readable in a nursery with the lights low.
Size and fit
At 31 cm, Bashful Hippo is easy to size up against an outfit. Measure your own plush from the base to the top of the head and compare the two numbers directly. The size guide carries the full table, and every garment we make names the height it is cut for.
Part of the Bashful range
Within Jellycat’s catalogue Bashful Hippo belongs to Bashful, and that is the useful thing to know when you are choosing a second one. A range shares its finish and its proportions, so pieces from the same family photograph well together and, more practically, often share a centimetre band, which means they can share a wardrobe.
Materials and care
Polyester fabric with polyester filling. Hand wash only. Do not tumble dry. Spot cleaning handles most of what happens day to day, and a full wash is rarely needed more than once or twice a year unless it has been somewhere muddy.
Choosing it as a gift
We list it under everyday companion, and it is picked here mostly for a birthday and no particular reason at all. Big enough to notice when it is unwrapped, and not so big that it has to find a permanent home the same day.
About A Flying Wish
Everything we make is built to celebrate the stories people share with the companions they keep. Bashful Hippo sits on our shelves for that reason, and our own outfits are cut to fit it and the rest of the plush in its band. The size guide has the full table.
